Construction Site in Böcklerpark

Construction Site in Böcklerpark (2016-2017) is a public project that took place in the Kreuzberg area of Berlin, focusing on the community space of Arab immigrant residents within Böcklerpark. At the time of the project, there was a heightened antagonistic view towards immigrants in Europe, fueled by issues such as the migration and residence of refugees, terrorism from specific religious groups, and the spread of far-right parties.

The installation took the form of a construction site at the center of this space, hinting at the imminent erection of a public artwork. An informational sign on the fence’s front displayed images without any details about what, when, or how something would be constructed—a unilateral notification without any consultation or prior notice to the predominantly apartment-dwelling residents. However, all of this information was false, and the temporary construction site was dismantled entirely just two weeks after its installation.
